IMPORTANT CHANGES

We have some important changes to Men’s Championship Singles!

The starting date is now Sunday March 24th. First Round Sectional games must be played on or before the 24th!

Fixtures can be seen here: https://mckenziepark.com.au/fixtures/

We apologise for the changes and any inconvenience, but if you take a look at our Calendar, you can see how busy this time of year is. As Championship Pairs finish up, there is Q Sevens Finals, Easter Pairs and on top of all that, there is our Social Days. Further down the track, there is events coming up in our diary, but in particular, Champions of Champions and the need to start the Triples on time.

Trying to juggle event times is far harder then you might like to believe, so the Men’s Committee need to make adjustments as best they can to insure events are starting and finishing on time so as not to overlap with other events. Due to the number of people who nominated to participate in the Championship Singles, the Committee had to adjust dates.

Markers are going to be required for some games. If you are in need of a marker for your game, please let us know and we will organise one for you.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE GCTDBA

In a Council meeting attended by all clubs within the Gold Coast Tweed District, a motion was put forward to bestow life membership to President Brian Marshall and Vice President Vic Lord. In an unanimous decision made by all who attended, this was accepted and granted. Congratulations to Brian and Vic on their life membership to the Gold Coast Tweed District Bowls Association!

For those of you who that can’t quite put a face to the name, let me tell you a little about each of them.

You will surely recognise Brian Marshall by voice if you haven’t already had the pleasure of meeting him at literally every bowls event in our district.

He commentates regularly on the GCTBA live stream – https://www.youtube.com/@bowlsgoldcoast-tweed9607 & https://www.facebook.com/GoldCoastTweedBowls

If he’s not on stream defining play by play, he does the rounds during events making an effort to engage with players, spectators and the unfortunate job of taste testing at the bistro.

An absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to the sport of Lawn Bowls and a long history of both playing the game and supporting the sport through committee positions in Bowls Queensland and now the Gold Coast Tweed District Bowls Association President – Brian also boasts an extensive history in green keeping.

Brian is always welcoming of any questions you might have about bowls and loves a chat, so next time you see him around the greens, give him a “Gday”.

Vic Lord you will surely know! Serving the district for numerous years in various positions, Vic was the McKenzie Park Men’s President for almost a decade in total.

Having his namely firmly etched on our Honour Board, but more importantly in the chronicles of our Club. Vic provided a solid foundation on the Men’s Committee offering bountiful wisdom surrounding the sport of Lawn Bowls, but also an extensive knowledge base on inner workings of a strong team to form a concrete committee.

Vic can be seen faithfully representing the GCTDBA at all levels of competition. It is not so much his lawn bowls acumen as his ability to inspire that distinguishes Vic as a terrific representative of both our district and the sport.

Vic is always up for a chat, so if you run into him around the greens, don’t hesitate to spring some questions on him or just spark a general conversation.

Two great advocates of Lawn Bowls were granted a life membership in tribute for their devotion to our sport. Their illustrious careers will now go down in the annals of history for the GCTDBA and we congratulate them with upmost respect on their achievements and those to come. Congratulations Brian Marshall & Vic Lord, well done and very well deserved!
