We have been a little scarce over the past week or so. I had a new member to welcome which most of you are aware. But I was also forced into an early holiday with the main computer blowing up. I unfortunately didn’t have access to much needed files and we missed out on wishing all the mum’s a Happy Mothers Day through the website, but we put it on Facebook! Better late than never, we hope everyone had a great Sunday last weekend with their mothers and you ladies got spoilt from those who care about you most.
Due to Mothers Day falling on the Sunday, which is normally dedicated to Club Championships, as well as some unscheduled down pour, teams scurried to play before the date or decided to wait until after, which meant games were changed at the last minute when the sun decided to peek through. In the end, all Round 2 games have been completed in time to get our Semi Final underway.
David McCann, Mark Fitzpatrick and Kevin Clark got in nice and early for their game verse Wes Holmes, Peter Macaulay & Glen Holmes, completing their game as soon as possible. A relatively dominant performance by David McCann, Mark Fitzpatrick and Kevin Clark, downing their foes 20-13 and allowing them to take a break as they wait for their Semi Final adversaries as well as scope out future opponents across the draw.
Russel Taylor (filling in for Wayne Hansen), Steve Pollock & Greg Lucas and the team of Rod Brown, Steve Dawson & David Ross also decided that early bird gets the worm and got their game out of the way earlier than expected. Rod Brown, Steve Dawson & David Ross never looked like losing as they came out firing and kept up the pace for the duration of the match. Consecutively winning ends and piling on points early in the match up, forced Russel Taylor, Steve Pollock & Greg Lucas into a corner where they tried to win ends with multiple shots but just couldn’t convert much needed shots to make a come back. Rod Brown, Steve Dawson & David Ross dispatching their rivals confidently; 25-12.
John Mitchell, Josh White & Peter Horne made their presence known to all participants with a commanding win over Rob Crewdson, Paul Krekelberg & Russel Hewitt 26-14. Packed with some veteran class and some spring chicken skill in Josh White, the trio look very strong heading into their Semi Final match.
Kyle Asquith, Ray Collins & Clint Sheldon was the last game to be played, seeing the results of the other teams and the quality shown, they wanted to assert themselves as “Chief”. Really knuckling down after a few hiccups in the first round, they showed Peter Probert, Dean Hall & George Holloway the door with a very daunting win of 28-4.
CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLES SEMI FINALS
Onto the Men’s Championship Triples Semi Finals, and looking at the two match ups, this is going to be legendary.
Each of the four teams having the make up to be a Grand Final contender, these two games are going to be well worth the watch. What’s more, the Games Director has organised for the Semi Finals to be played this Saturday the 25th and for the Grand Final to be played this Sunday the 26th – making this weekend a good excuse to get down to the Club and support the boys whilst enjoying some quality bowls and a cold beverage!
Both games will be thoroughly entertaining with strong players in every position. To add to the excitement, all players are practiced up and playing really well. Each game could have easily been the Grand Final itself, but the draw didn’t allow it to pan out like that!
