Week 33 2023

PENNANT

Round 7 of Pennant has finished and this spells the last of regular games for Pennant 2023. It has been a highly successful campaign for McKenzie Park Highlanders, largely to do with great selections from our Selectors and an abundance of super keen bowlers.

The Selectors – John Mitchell, John McMahon & Tony Price have certainly had their work cut out for them over the 7 week period. A midway decision meant Ladies were no longer allowed to play in the Men’s Pennant. This sent our Selectors scrambling to fill those holes and they had to rapidly change teams to give all four of our teams an equal opportunity to succeed in a cut throat competition with all of the well known lawn bowls clubs in our district fielding some very formidable teams.

We managed a very prosperous season with three out of four teams on their way to the finals this coming weekend.

Each team has been supreme in their own right and we cant wait to see them progress this weekend. Have a look at our Pennant page to see how each team has performed.

Division 5 Green ended in second place behind Tugun who they beat last week and will face first up in the Qualifying Finals.

Division 6 Gold also finished second place behind Tugun who they will play in the first round of Finals.

Division 7 Purple knocked off second place Tweed Heads and retained their number one spot. They went undefeated all season and will hopefully keep that record for the duration of the Finals.

HANDICAP PAIRS

The Handicap Pairs Semi Finals were very intriguing on Sunday. Old friends were pit against each other with James Simons & Peter Horne delivering Mike Curd & John Mitchell a critical blow – 28 to 12. On the other rink, Glenn Ferguson & Russel Hewitt VS’ed Rod Brown and Dean Hall, Glenn & Russel narrowly taking the win 17 to 15. Pennant team mates Glenn & Rod forced to go head to head and both in form and complimented by the always consistent bowls from their respective skips; Russel & Dean it was going to be anyone’s game.
