Week 27 Wrap Up 2024

What a wild weekend of non stop Lawn Bowls at home and away! Three days of continual action and some absolutely amazing results from numerous teams as well as a couple of upsets to add in to the mix. It wouldn’t be Lawn Bowls without a few losses – but it remained a perfect weekend none the less.

Because of the mountain of games played, there is several new pages and updated regular ones, so read on to take a gander at all that we have put together!

Ladies PennantRound 1 kickstarted the weekend with a well earnt win over Broadbeach on Friday in Division 3. Setting the bar for the rest of our squads with a very impressive win on all three rinks as well as winning overall on shots 64-41. Earning themselves the maximum 16 point reward and catapulting them into first spot on the ladder at the end of Round 1.

The draws & results for their season is not available on Bowlslink, so we rely heavily on information posted on the GCTDLBA Facebook, I am not able to find the draw for next weeks match up, so if any of the Ladies could send it to bowls@mckenziepark.com.au or let us know on Facebook and we will update the Fixtures page accordingly.

Any picture you want to share, from any event, feel free to send them to the same email!

Three teams entered the fray this year. We have Division 5 GREEN, Division 6 GOLD and Division 7 ORANGE.

The Round 1 opponents for all three teams were those of very formidable adversaries. Div 5 VS Broadbeach, Div 6 VS Tugun and Div 7 VS Tweed.

Div 5 & Div 6 were lucky enough to play at home where as Div 7 had to make the road trip down over the border to Tweed Heads. Unfortunately, weather wise, it didn’t matter what State you were in, there was rain and wind in abundance.

In true McKenzie Park fashion, the raincoats came out and were complimented by free snorkels handed out by Men’s President David McCann. No, not really, but he very well could have!

It didn’t phase Division 5 GREEN and Division 6 GOLD at home. Both taking the win with only 1 single rink from Div 6 going down out of both teams. It was a nervous wait for the results from Division 7 ORANGE as messages had been sent express that one team was copping a schooling 19-0.

As the game ran it’s course someone or something decided that it was time to put things into hyperdrive and Div 7 powered home to win on two rinks and win overall 68-60!

After Round 1 it puts two of our teams in first place on the ladder with the third sitting comfortably in spot number 3 for their respective ladder. Three interesting games coming up again this weekend, and yet again we will have two teams at home doing battle.

PLEASE NOTE: Would be greatly appreciated if all three teams are able to meet at the Club at 12:00PM for a photographic opportunity.

Division 5 GREEN roster is able to be viewed inside the Club outside the Bowls Office.

The Champion of Club Champions for both Women & Men got a started. Women played Pairs at home and the Men’s Fours went away to Robina.

Just need to look at the photo to see the quality amongst the Ladies this year. An Australian captain, the world number 1 and a vast array of State, National, Commonwealth and World titles amongst the group.

Tony Anderson & Narelle Foster represented our Club in the CoC Women’s Pairs this year – against the always, almost perfect team from Tweed Heads – Lynsey Clark and Claire Turley. It just wasn’t meant to be this year for our two Ladies as they went down 25-11. From all accounts at the Club the Ladies performed very well, but the positive affirmation from both players and spectators from other Clubs on social media is very enlightening to see, not just positive feedback for our two contestants, but for the Club as a whole. Very good to see! Hard luck ladies, but strive to get back there again next year – we know you can!

What a great pair of ladies from McKenzie. On and off the field they were a delight

Great to get feedback from people about how awesome our Ladies are.

The CoC Men’s Fours team of James Richmond, Gary Mackay, Shane Ward & Scott Warby came out all guns blazing against Mermaid. The first bowl down from our blokes was a resting toucher and the team followed close behind with some great bowls end after end.

Only ever being a maximum of three down for the majority of the game, it wasn’t until the last ends that Mermaid Beach packed on some big scores to run away with the game 23-10.

A great game to watch and you couldn’t really say any of the boys didn’t lift their weight. Mermaid proved to be the better side though and the big scores late in the game just couldn’t be retrieved.
