WRAP UP

WEEK 38 2024

Week 38 get’s wrapped up with the addition of 3 participants into the history books – crowned 2024 Champions in their chosen disciplines.

After a chock-a-block Saturday that consisted of two Grand Finals and a Semi Final, five McKenzie Park members come out victorious with three standing on the podium as 2024 minor Championship Winners in the Veteran Singles and Senior Pairs, and two securing their spot in the Grand Final for the Mixed Pairs.

VETERAN SINGLES GRAND FINAL

Garry Cornish stopped Chris Davidson in his tracks. Winning by a single shot, Garry now deserves a second “R” in his name when it comes to the website. There was some contention from Gary Mackay who said he is the only one who deserves a second “Arrr!” in his name – but that is another story and a really lame dad joke. Sorry Garry & Pirate!

Garry comes out on top with a well deserved win. Having been such a terrific player throughout the year and an avid supporter of intraclub, interclub and social days, it was natural that Garry would find himself Grand Finals bound somewhere along the season timeline.

A real gentlemen on and off the green it’s befitting for him to win the Veteran Singles Grand Final. A solid effort amongst some highly skilled players from our Club, both Garry and Chris did exceptionally well to make it to the pinnacle of the competition and showed the crowd exactly why they had made it to the Grand Final. Well done lads.

SENIOR PAIRS GRAND FINAL

In a Grand Final well worth the wait, David McCann & Peter Horne kept Peter Macaulay & Ray Collins at bay to notch up another Senior Pairs Championship win together.

An extremely close game down to the very end, David & Peter came out victorious 19-16 and etch their names as one of the most Senioristic (or Successful?) duos in the Senior Pairs within the modern era at McKenzie Park.

There would have been some heartbeats skipped for both teams during the match up, but it eventually went the way of McCann & Horne in a very close tussle.

MIXED PAIRS SEMI FINALS

The first of two Mixed Pairs Semi Finals got played when Val McCallum & Maurice McCallum went to war with Mandy Luther & Scott Warby.

It was Val & Maurice who had packed the big guns and came out absolutely firing and completely on song with a show of force that echoed to the participants in the yet to be played second Semi Final – that they are ripping and ready for anything come the Grand Final!

Val was just phenomenal from start to finish and Maurice just added to her effort with some bombs of his own.

Mandy & Scott just couldn’t seem to translate the ends in their favour as Val & Maurice took command and piled on shots to win 22-7. Maurice finally shaking off a fictitious curse that hasn’t allowed him access to the Grand Final in 2024 for intraclub events. With the addition of Val for this upcoming GF, they will be a team to be reckoned with and it is going to be one hell of a match whoever they go up against.
