Week 37 2023

We are heading into the tail end of the year, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a pile of lawn bowls planned to keep us all occupied! As our intraclub events come to a close just before our November Presentation Night, we will venture into more social bowls on Tuesday, Thursday and Sundays and Summer Nines complementing our Saturdays.

Super Sunday finally returns on 17th of September. We have been waiting patiently for a time where we could run this social day as Sundays are always are big day at McKenzie Park with live music, raffles, members draw and a whole heap of bowlers out on the greens.

We kick off at 12:30PM with 3 bowl pairs. Two games of 12 ends with 100% of the entry fee ($20 per team) dedicated to prize money. There is rewards for first and second game winners and a large sum for overall winners. This event is capped at 14 teams (28 players). So get into the club and check the sheets on the shelf underneath the Ladies Board to put your name down!

The weekend was one to remember with both the Mixed Fours and Handicap Pairs Finals being played.

Saturday saw the Mixed Fours play out. Robyn Fulwood, Luchica Muggeridge, Chris Davidson & Shane Stevenson battled Narelle Foster, Colleen Willis, Josh White & Craig Brown. What a battle it was! Both teams progressing through their campaign with supremacy, it was always going to be a battle of the titans.

All tied up on the last end – 19 all, there could only be one victor! Robyn, Luchica, Chris & Shane managed to triumph with their very last bowl taking the crown 20-19.

Sunday was the Final of the Handicap Pairs. Due to personal reasons, the players have made us wait a couple of weeks to see this Final play out. James Simons & Peter Horne VS Glenn Ferguson & Russel Hewitt, it was going to be another nail biter!

Glenn & Russel went out strong and took an early lead, but as the game played on, James & Pete managed to claw back and this game was also all tied up on the last end, 18 all.

James and Pete created a very secure head with all the back bowls plus two bowls close to the jack. Russel was unfortunately unable to disturb the head and James & Pete were victorious 20-18.

The Chicken & Prawn Day is now completely full with all teams paid and nominations secured.

If you are a member of the McKenzie Park Ladies or Men’s Bowls Club, keep an eye on your email as I will be sending a special invite in the next 24 hours – only open to our members!

We are very much looking forward to this one of a kind event and cant wait to see you all there!
