Week 31 – AGM & Pennant!

The McKenzie Park Men’s Bowls Club Annual General Meeting is taking place this Sunday at 9:30AM. Don’t forget to get there early and get seated. They dont go for long, but there is always important information and it’s a good idea to see who is going to be on our Committee for the next 12 months in case you need to contact any of them for whatever reason.

It’s good for the information, but it’s good to mix with all the attendees after the AGM – get to meet some new members and listen to the always comical banter that will take place!

It’s the pointy end of the Pennant 2024 competition and we have all three men’s teams in a fight until the end. Some small changes as we head into Round 6:

The Division 3 LADIES endured another loss over the weekend. With only one round left in their Pennant competition, they currently sit 4th and need absolutely everything to go their way to get a shot in the Finals.

It isn’t impossible, but the odds are stacked against them as they have to face the top ranked team of Mudgeeraba. They will need to win all 3 rinks to get the full 16 points, then hope Tweed beats Broadbeach on overall score, but only win 1 rink – it’s a long shot, but we will wait to see what happens!

Division 5 GREEN came out firing as we expected they would. Demolishing Musgrave Hill and taking home 14 points for the overall win and catapulting them into second spot on their ladder. They now sit just 4 points behind Helensvale and have a tiny bit of arms length between them and third place – Tugun, who is 10 points behind our Div 5 Green.

They have Southport this week which they will really want to get the full 16 points from. And then they finish the competition against Tugun which could absolutely see them finish in first spot if all goes to plan.

Division 6 GOLD have been fighting tooth and nail for extra points. A thumping by Burleigh dampened their efforts over the weekend, but they have a chance now to gather up some points, especially this weekend when they take on Paradise Point. Sitting in 5th spot, tagging behind Beenleigh who is just 8 points ahead.

A surge over the next two weeks will see them climb some spots and make the Finals – let’s hope they can bring it!

Division 7 ORANGE managed a draw with Musgrave Hill. It looked like it was going to be a loss until one rink was left and made up the 2 shots needed to split the points and get a little extra for the two rink wins. This weekend will be an important match verse Beenleigh. Really want to knuckle down and get those 16 points. Hoping to come back from third position to finish in first is not out of the question, but absolutely aiming for a top 2 finish by the end of the season.

The weekend didn’t go as planned for some of our teams, but other teams in the competition didn’t yield much needed results – which leaves all three of our Men’s Pennant teams in very good positions but needing to bring it home with supremacy over the next two weeks. It is not far off reality to have all three of our teams competing in the Finals, so fingers crossed we can all make it come to fruition!

Good luck everyone! It’s going to be a tough weekend!

Champion of Club Champions is finished for our champs this year. It concluded with Kyle Asquith going down to Paradise Point in the Singles, 7-25. Overall a great effort according to spectators and Kyle said he was happy with the way he played.

With COC now finished, you can check how our players went: https://mckenziepark.com.au/results/champion-of-champions-2024/

It will be interesting to see who represents the Club next year. And it will be good to see all our players progress their skill level because they definitely aren’t done yet!
