CHANGES
MATCH CHANGES
It is around this time of year that the green comes out, so normally allocated times for events now need to be shuffled as players reorganise their times to make sure they get their games played on the grass rather than having to play on the carpet. An almost gospel rule that is within most clubs with two different playing surfaces – when you start a Championship on one surface, you must finish on that surface, unless of course there is extenuating circumstances.
So we now see our Games Director; David McCann copping an overload of phone calls from people rescheduling and him having to do his best to juggle the change and coincide with the Greenkeepers.
But as David shuffles days & times and informs the Greenkeepers to cancel the mowing & rolling on previously scheduled days, the benefits pour for the supporters! Instead of having to wait to see multiple disciplines staggered across different stages and played on varying weekends, we are lucky enough to see three of the disciplines in almost identical stages of competition come to their final stages all at once, and on the very same day!
It is sheer luck we get to see two Grand Finals and a Semi Final play out tomorrow on Saturday the 21st! There very well could have been a second Semi Final added to the mix if Peter Horne didn’t already find himself obligated to play in one of the Grand Finals.
MIXED
MIXED PAIRS SEMI FINAL
The first of two Semi Finals in the Mixed Pairs will take place at 9:30am. Val McCallum teams up with her hubby Maurice McCallum verse Mandy Luther and her male model for the day, Scott Warby which is going to be a banger. Val has been particularly handy during the season but there will be quite a focus on Maurice who has progressed dramatically in the past several months, only just missing out on Grand Final births and was critical to the Pennant team throughout the season.
Mandy has been on and off the green recently but when she does get on it, it’s like she never left. She will have Scott taking up the Skipper position who will be in great form as usual and has been performing sensationally all year round with only a few minor off days.
Will be a top game and well worth the watch! Get there at 9:00am to get your popcorn and get ready for what is shaping up to be a BIG Saturday!
Keep an eye on the black board in the DOSA – Dave McCann has been great advertising times for games, so watch out for the second Semi Final of Robyn Fullwood & Shane Stevenson VS Toni Anderson & Peter Horne which will be another sublime game for the eye balls.
VETERAN
VETERAN SINGLES GRAND FINAL
Kicking off just 30 minutes after the Mixed Pairs, is the Veteran Singles Grand Final between Gary Cornish & Chris Davidson – 10:00am.
Gary Cornish is always hovering about the greens and plays well in any position. He will be a formidable adversary and never needs a warm up before he starts plonking his obvious green weaponry on and around the jack.
Chris Davidson is also rather dangerous on the green too, coming from a win in the Veteran Singles at Beauy, he will be striving to take home another crown for the year and much the same as Gary, is very consistent all year round.
Will not be surprising to see this game go down to the last few ends with a small margin and worthy of watching for sure!
SENIORISTIC
SENIOR PAIRS GRAND FINAL
The third and last match up, but by no means the least, is the Senior Pairs Grand Final.
Peter Macaulay & Ray Collins VS David McCann & Peter Horne at 12:00pm.
This game will be particularly interesting! Peter Macaulay tasting victory previously in the season with a Hcap win and made a much needed appearance in the Pennant season to bolster the ranks. He’s playing well and will be backed by Ray Collins who is always hungry on the green for eating wins. Ray will bring a very skilled anchorage to the team and that has been apparent with their road to the Final, dispatching 3 very strong teams on their path to glory.
To beat David McCann & Peter Horne is going to be a difficult demand! The duo have been previous Senior Pairs Champions and both have an array of wins under their belts in all disciplines and will be on their A game trying to cultivate another win!
A nice little cherry to finish off the Saturday arvo with three great games to keep you occupied!
With the green coming out in less than a couple of weeks and Summer Nines due to start at the beginning of October, lap up these last pieces of intraclub competition on the grass and get down to support the players. This Saturday in particular will be worth the trip to get your feed of lawn bowls action.
