Some varying results over the past weekend, but one thing is for sure, there is some sunburnt bodies going around the club. After a whopping max of 36 degrees shown on the temperature gauge at McKenzie Park, it is little wonder everyone was little bit more exhausted than usual.
The Summer Nines campaign kicked off with all three of our teams up against clubs that always produce talented sides. Unfortunately it was a rocky start for McKenzie Park as well three teams went down.
White faired the best, going down to Robina overall 66-64. Whilst Blue went down to Burleigh 71-54. Purple took a loss to Beenleigh 65-46. Blue were out of town at Burleigh, but White & Purple were both at home. If you werent looking at the main board for the overall scores, it would have been hard to determine who was actually going to take home the win in the end.
Out of the six rinks being played, three were exceptionally good, but just not enough to produce the results this week. These leaves quite a few options open to our Selectors and it will be interesting to see the mechanical upgrades done for Round 2.

A rather interesting weekend for the Mixed Pairs. Round 3 (QTR Finals) were played literally an hour after half of the people playing competed in Summer Nines.
That didn’t stop them from making the most of the pairs games. One would have thought they would have been tuckered out, but in most cases, quite the opposite – they were well and truly warmed up and ready to roll.
Even though Summer Nines was on grass and Mixed Pairs was on synthetic, it showed that those with the previous experience of a game were there, ready to win, regardless of the surface they were playing on.
All three games blew out a tad, but the results were strikingly similar for all three rinks.
Karen Baker & Josh White overcame Peter Probert & Joy Jope (filling in for Lorraine Frankland) – 28-16. Kevin Clark & Vicki Day defeated John Mitchell & Narelle Foster 27-14 and Craig Brown & Colleen Willis toppled Lyn Vicary & Ray Clark 27-15.
There is one more game left to be played for Round 3, Kannika Suwannasri & Dean Hall VS Robyn Fullwood & Shane Stevenson. This game is set to be played on Friday the 20th of October at a time yet to be organised.
Moving into the Semi Finals, it is a very strong field. Karen Baker & Josh White will prove to be difficult for any opponent with Josh progressing as a bowler extremely well over the past 12 months. Kevin Clark & Vicki Day are always going to be titans and will do anything to take the trophy again this year. Craig Brown & Colleen Willis have all the shots and compete really well on the synthetic so they will also be a team to watch. It is still anyone’s game, but it is going to be tough going! Definitely make your way to the club to watch these games, they wont be short of entertainment, both skill wise and the banter! Let’s hope Craig “Manny” Brown gets a rink near the gallery so we can hear all the to-and-fro between him and Colleen.

The Final of Stan Capuano – Peter Probert VS George Holloway. Who would have thought these long time friends and social day partners would have to face off in the Final of Stan Cap?!
An amazing game to watch. Some sensational heads and some mild banter with the occasional mind games from George. The game crept away in Georges favour at one point, then Peter replied with a massive surge.
The game ended up 104-96, George Holloway the winner of this years Stan Capuano!
