Although there wasn’t much on this weekend with the inclement weather, and as we prepare for the Australian Open. We decided to venture far and wide!
For those that stayed home, Super Saturday was on offer. With a $10 entry fee and winner takes all in 4 bowl pairs. Kyle Asquith & Andrew Wilton took home the chocolate, winning by just a single shot against Adam Helier & Lyn Vicary.
For the travelers, we endeavored the inaugural Mudgeeraba 5-A-Side. With 15 of us making the move along with some much welcomed support from our fellow McKenzie Park bowlers who were very interested to see how the format works. A special thanks to Mudgeeraba Lawn Bowls Club, as well as Shane Stevenson, Chris Davidson, Darren (from Mudgeeraba & Benowa) and John Harrison for running an excellent event and a format that was new to a lot of people. It went fluently throughout the day, with some terrific bowls as well as a fantastic lunch of fresh cooked chips and sliders.
The awesome fivesome of “Horney Team” with a roster of McKenzie players managed to get second place and take home some serious chocolate! Narelle Foster, Colleen Willis (what you talking about), Josh White, Craig Brown (Wombat) & Peter Horne handled the opposition perfectly and got themselves a much deserved extra income to spend over the bar and an Uber home.
If we didn’t have enough bowls for the Saturday, we binged – heading down to South Tweed Sports Club to meet up with “Fridge” and our long lost dad – David McCann, for the Seafood Day Triples. Unfortunately on this occasion none of our bowlers managed to scrape into the top, but we did gorge on prawns, chicken and some friendly banter about how good NSW is.
Just before the Australian Open starts this weekend, we have a date for the Men’s Triples Final!
David Ross, Steve Dawson & Peter MaCaulay battle against Peter Probert, Dean Hall & George Holloway on Thursday the 8th at 12:30PM. Both teams having a very strong lineup, and also having knocked off some of the favourites. This will be an amazing game with the in-form players from both teams not giving any other side any leeway besides a close call in the QTR Finals for the Ross team. You can bet your bottom dollar this will go down to the wire and it will be the last of our intraclub events until the AO is finished.
